Paraffin Wax vs Microcrystalline Wax Full Analysis

I. Differences in Raw Materials & Molecular Structures

Refined from light lube oil fractions of crude oil, mainly composed of straight-chain alkanes with carbon chains ranging from C18 to C30. It forms large, brittle crystals.

The full KH series is categorized into low, medium and high melting point grades. Food-grade variants are FDA-certified with oil content below 0.75%.

Deep-processed from crude oil vacuum residue, featuring carbon chains of C35 to C80 and abundant branched-chain alkanes. It yields fine, flexible crystals.

KH M70 and M80 microcrystalline waxes deliver excellent low-temperature resistance and strong adhesion, ideal for premium daily chemicals, rubber and polishing industries.

II. Core Performance Comparison

Paraffin wax: Cost-effective and high in hardness, yet prone to brittleness under low temperatures with weak adhesion.

Microcrystalline wax: Higher melting point, superior flexibility, outstanding sealing performance and oil absorption capacity, at a higher cost.

III. Selection Guidelines by Industry

Choose Paraffin Wax First

Candles, general food wrapping paper, external lubricants for PVC, slow-release fertilizers, wood waterproofing, low-cost hot melt adhesives.

Choose Microcrystalline Wax First

Lipsticks & skincare products, anti-aging protective wax for rubber, premium car wax & shoe polish, moisture-proof sealing coatings, high-performance hot melt adhesives.Blended Application:Combine both wax types for hot melt adhesives, rubber goods and cosmetic balm bases to balance production cost and low-temperature flexibility.
