FT Wax vs Paraffin Wax

Paraffin Wax

Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum refining, consisting of saturated alkanes with varied carbon chain lengths. Its molecular structure is dominated by straight-chain alkanes, alongside a certain fraction of isoalkanes and cycloalkanes.


Based on refining depth and carbon distribution, paraffin wax features melting points ranging from 48℃ to 74℃, with oil content adjustable by grade. Fully refined paraffin wax boasts superior whiteness and purity, extensively applied in candles, packaging, plastic processing and food-contact materials.

Fischer-Tropsch (FT) Wax

FT wax is synthesized from syngas (CO + H₂) via the Fischer-Tropsch process, with coal or natural gas as feedstocks. It features highly linear long alkane chains with minimal branching and ultra-low impurities.


FT wax generally delivers high melting points (85℃–115℃) and ultra-low oil content (normally below 0.1%), paired with outstanding thermal stability and lubricity. It is ideal for industrial processes demanding high heat resistance, efficient processing and premium surface appearance.

Paraffin wax has a lower melting range, suited for standard-temperature manufacturing and general-purpose products. FT wax features higher melting points and robust thermal stability, performing reliably under high-temperature conditions. It is widely adopted in PVC, hot melt adhesives, road asphalt modification and high-performance coatings.
