What is Synthetic Wax?

Synthetic wax is composed of low molecular weight polyethylene and its derivatives of synthetic hydrocarbons, including non Hilltropsch wax and its derivatives. Used as a moisturizer and emulsion stabilizer in cosmetics. Although it is called "wax", it is not actually wax. It is made from single or multiple polymers (compounds with higher molecular weight synthesized from monomers) as the main raw materials. The Fischer Tropsch synthetic wax has been certified by multiple agencies, including the US Food and Drug Administration, as an additive in food and cosmetics. In the field of cosmetics manufacturing, it can be used as cosmetics dispersant, eye black and eyeliner shaping basic materials, lipstick hardener, etc; In the field of basic skincare products, it can be used as a melting point regulator for makeup water and cream products.

Synthetic Wax Types

Synthetic wax is mainly divided into six types: polyethylene wax and oxidized polyethylene wax, Fischer Topsch wax, hydrogenated hemp oil wax, S wax, OP wax, O wax, and E wax. Among them, Fischer's wax and polyethylene wax are the most important synthetic waxes.

Polyethylene wax and oxidized polyethylene wax: Polyethylene wax is a white, long carbon chain, branched solid hydrocarbon with a molecular weight of between, formed by the polymerization of pure ethylene under catalysts and high temperature and pressure. It is a widely used synthetic wax. Polyethylene wax, after moderate oxidation, has a certain acid value and becomes oxidized polyethylene wax. Polyethylene wax and oxidized polyethylene wax can be mixed with many animal waxes, plant waxes, mineral waxes, and various synthetic waxes. Polyethylene wax and oxidized polyethylene wax can be used in many aspects such as shoe polish, floor wax, furniture wax, candles, crayons, printing inks, concentrated pigments, cosmetics, hot melt adhesives, paper coatings, and fruit preservation.

Fischer Topsch Wax: Fischer Topsch Wax, abbreviated as Fischer Topsch Wax, is a commercial Fischer Topsch Wax with different melting point specifications, which is obtained by refining the by-product hydrocarbon wax from hydrogen synthesis of petroleum. Fischer Topsch Wax is composed of high molecular weight long-chain normal alkanes and a small portion of short branched isomeric alkanes. Fei Yituo wax is widely used in shoe polish, floor wax, car wax, cosmetics, paint, ink, hot melt glue, candles, crayons, chemical books, and electrical insulation.

Hydrogenated castor oil wax: Hydrogenated castor oil wax, also known as castor wax, is a wax like solid produced by catalytic hydrogenation of castor oil. If necessary, white commercial castor wax can be obtained by decolorization and refining. Castor wax is widely used in the production of polishing wax products such as leather shoe oil and floor wax. It is a high-temperature resistant lubricant, candle, carbon paper, ointment, ink, cosmetics, hot melt adhesive, electrical insulation, release agent for plastic and rubber products, and coating for leather, paper, and fabrics.

S wax: It is an acidic wax produced by the deep oxidation of montane wax with chromic acid and sulfuric acid. Its main component is high carbon wax acid, which accounts for about 85% (mass fraction), and still contains% unreacted wax vinegar. S wax is suitable for various emulsified polishing wax products, fat soluble dye matrix, plastic lubricant, wax lotion for textile and paper industry, carbon paper, precision casting, etc. But its most important use is as an intermediate raw material for a series of synthetic waxes such as OP wax, 0 wax, E wax, etc.

OP wax and O wax: Both OP wax and O wax are derivatives of S wax, and they have good oil absorption and lipophilicity. OP wax and O wax are widely used in the production of polishing wax products such as leather shoe oil, floor wax, furniture wax, and automotive wax, especially suitable for the production of solvent based hard paste polishing wax products. It can also be used for carbon paper and as a lubricant for plastics.

Synthetic Wax Functions

Lubrication performance: Synthetic wax CY is a binary active compound, with both active groups located at the same end of the molecular long chain. Due to the fact that the active atoms in the active group have a pair of lone pair electrons, chemical adsorption can be formed on the metal surface when the active group reacts with the metal, and the formed adsorption film can effectively play the role of a boundary lubrication film. Wax lubricants are very suitable for metal pressure processing. They can fully extend on the friction surface, making the lubricating film tough and carrying lubricant to fill the friction surface, which is beneficial for improving the lubrication performance of plastic boundaries.

Plasticity: The wax shell is prone to breakage. Adding 1% polyethylene to synthetic wax increases its plasticity, effectively solving the problem of wax shell breakage.

Synthetic Wax Uses

Synthetic wax has good cold resistance, heat resistance, chemical resistance, and wear resistance, with a high melting point. Adding a small amount to other waxes can improve their melting point and other properties. It is often used as a pigment dispersant and lubricant for plastic processing, waterproof coating for paper, moisture-proof layer for corrugated cardboard, wear-resistant modifier for printing ink, impregnation of electrical insulation paper and cloth, floor wax, automotive wax, hot melt adhesive, etc

Each type of synthetic wax can provide unique advantages in specific applications. For example, fatty acid amide waxe is commonly used as an external and internal lubricant. Polyolefins have many end uses in many industries, from the production of colored concentrates to the modification of petroleum wax. Additionally, Fischer Topsch Wax is an ideal choice for printing inks, polishing agents, coatings, candles, and a wide range of industrial applications.
