Analysis of the Application of Fischer Tropsch Wax in the Plastics Industry

What is fischer tropsch wax?

Fischer tropsch wax is a type of methylene polymer, which is produced by the synthesis of synthetic gas or natural gas. The high melting point (usually above 85℃) of fischer tropsch wax is mainly composed of straight chain, saturated, high carbon alkanes with a relative molecular weight of 500-1000. This gives this chemical a fine crystal structure, high melting point, narrow melting point range, low oil content, low needle penetration, low migration rate, low melt viscosity, hardness, wear resistance, and high stability.

Compared with universal polyethylene wax (PE wax), fischer synthesis wax has significant differences

Molecular weight. Fischer tropsch wax has a much lower molecular weight than PE wax, and fewer branch chains, leading to high crystallinity and easy penetration into high-viscosity large molecular chains. This significantly reduces the viscosity of the melt, and has low migration in the processing. The lubrication effect is significant in the later stages.

Fischer tropsch wax is a saturated straight chain alkane that does not contain double bonds, has strong antioxidation ability, and has good weather resistance.

Fischer tropsch wax has a much lower viscosity than PE wax, only about 10. It can achieve the same lubrication effect with less dosage. The usage is only 70%-80% of PE wax. Fischer tropsch wax has good compatibility with PVC, and can be used as both internal and external lubricants. It can effectively control shear conditions, promote fluidity, control friction and melt performance, and improve thermal stability. At the same time, fischer tropsch wax, due to its high crystallinity and high linearity structure, can give PVC products the best physical and processing performance. According to needs, fischer synthesis can synthesize alkanes with different chain lengths to change the final product molecular weight, forming a series of products.

The main applications of fischer tropsch wax in the plastic industry

Fischer tropsch wax can be used in plastics (PVC) processing, such as injection molding, extrusion, and granulation industries. In the production process of color masterbatch and modified plastics, during the mixing of materials, fischer tropsch wax helps to disperse the fillers and has excellent lubricity.

It can be used as an external lubricant for PVC, and low viscosity can improve product production speed. During the mixing of materials, it helps to disperse the fillers, especially in high-viscosity systems extrusion, where it has a better effect. Adding fischer tropsch wax requires 40%-50% less than ordinary PE wax, and it can significantly improve the gloss of the product surface (the gloss can replace Brazilian carnauba wax). When using concentrated colors, melted fischer tropsch wax can effectively wet the dye and reduce extrusion viscosity.
